Dear SALTS members,
I've worked as a speech therapist in Singapore for about 8 years now, and I first joined the SALTS committee in 2018. As a general committee member then, I worked mostly on Facebook and Instagram outreach, and had the chance to attend some courses on social media marketing. When I look back, I am thankful for the many opportunities I have had in SALTS to get to know other therapists outside of my workplace, develop non-clinical skills and be a part of its mission to advocate for our profession locally.
The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely brought a lot of change to Singapore and our practice. I am thankful for the increased access to professional training with the rise of telepractice and online platforms. SALTS will continue to reach out to more providers so that our local speech therapists can have more options for clinical development.
As I reflect on the past year and our 2022 theme for speech therapy week, 'Connect For…', I wonder what SALTS can do to facilitate a sense of connectedness among the wider community of speech therapists in Singapore. We have great teams within our workplaces, but before I joined SALTS I didn’t know many other speech therapists except for my university mates.
My hope for 2023 is that we can develop that sense of belonging in our local speech therapy community. How can we do this? We invite each of you to tell us!
Reach out to the SALTS committee via this Form or DM us on our social media channels (IG: @speechtherapy.sg, FB: Speech and Language Therapy Singapore) with your ideas to grow the speech therapy community - we'd love for you to tell us what you'd like to see more of, or maybe just what you hope to be a part of.
As we embark on another year of work as the SALTS committee, we look forward to bring more growth and connection to our community, and we hope to see all of you there.
With warmest wishes,
Chloe Ang
President,
SALTS
