May is Apraxia Awareness Month. Apraxia of Speech affects the coordination of speech muscles, making it difficult to produce clear and accurate sounds. It can be acquired (e.g. through stroke) or during a child’s language learning process (i.e. childhood apraxia of speech). To end this month off, we are featuring Reena, our bubbly friend! Reena would like to share her journey with Childhood Apraxia of Speech with everyone. Reena is very friendly, always greeting her friends with a smile. She enjoys dancing, and crafting things. She is also working with Speech Therapists on her communication, where she practices speech sounds as well as use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
