Pediatric Feeding; from Referral to Intervention

This course will provide an overview of the assessment and management of paediatric dysphagia and feeding difficulties from the point of referral to the end of the consultation. It discusses how information from case history taking helps in the understanding of individual’s feeding difficulties and planning of assessment. It will also touch on the various tools and techniques used for the management of dysphagia and other feeding difficulties. This course will give anyone who is new or unfamiliar to paediatric feeding a roadmap to the various skill sets involved in the assessment and management of paediatric dysphagia and feeding difficulties.
Participants will be able to:
• To understand the assessment and management practices of feeding and swallowing specific to children with special needs
• To recognize the overall aspects and rationales behind the management process in a community setting
Ms Ada Tok, has been a Speech and Language Pathologist since 2011. She is an experienced Speech Therapist working with children, facing feeding difficulties and dysphagia. Her experience includes working with babies in the neonatal ICU, children admitted to the paediatric ICU and general ward, as well as children seen at a multi-disciplinary feeding and nutrition clinic in an acute tertiary hospital. She is currently working as a senior therapist, in Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore, providing services to children in the Early Intervention Programme and also managing clients seen in the Feeding and Swallowing Clinic.
She graduated with a Bachelor in Speech Pathology from Flinders University in South Australia in 2009 and started her work in an adult acute hospital postgraduation. She was awarded the TEAM Academic Medicine Development Award (AMDA) in 2014, for which an attachment at SOS feeding solutions @ the STAR center (Dr Kay Toomey’s SOS clinic) and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital was completed.
