Description : There has been much debate over recent years about the best way to teach reading, but the strongest body of evidence supports a structured phonics program, with the emphasis on the development of the students’ awareness of sounds in words, or ‘phonological awareness’. Cued Articulation is a system devised by a speech pathologist which fosters an understanding of the sound structure of the language. This course is designed to teach Cued Artic techniques, and provide practical ideas for using Cued Artic for promoting development of listening skills and early sound awareness.
Short biography of speaker: Having worked across UK, Singapore and Thailand over the last 10 years Laura has developed a special clinical interest in working with children with specific speech sound disorders. She is currently studying for an MSc in speech difficulties through the University of Sheffield (UK). On top of clinical work, in 2013 she was awarded a minor grant by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists to further study phonetics at University College London at post-graduate level. She has used Cued Articulation throughout her practice having had the opportunity to train in as a newly qualified therapist and then later become a tutor. She is a true believer in Cued Articulation for enhancing teaching in phonics, literacy and supporting children with their individual communication goals.
