About the event
Speech therapists working with children will know how difficult it can be to meet the individual needs of each child. Especially when the child has trouble processing (sensory) information, i.e. difficult to activate, or is too active or very sensitive to sensory input. In this workshop you will learn the basic, recent (evidence based) and relevant knowledge on sensory processing disorders and its implications for speech, language and feeding.
The 3-day workshop focuses on clinical work with children, with and without cognitive and/or neurological disorders. Winnie Dunn's quadrant model for sensory processing will be used throughout the workshop to guide clinical reasoning.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
Define Sensory Processing and understand its implication to the field of speech and language therapy;
Understand the neurological foundations and connections to Sensory
Processing;
Understand the role of the senses in the development, daily functioning and learning;
Set up a basic treatment plan using sensory information to reach specific goals for speech-language or feeding therapy.
