About the event
Course Objectives
Understand the sensory-cognitive factors that underlie the development of language, literacy, and math processing.
Understand the gestalt of the learning process through the Dual Coding Theory of cognitive development.
Gain knowledge of the role of concept imagery in mathematical reasoning.
Gain knowledge of the role of numeral imagery in automaticity in mathematical computation.
Gain knowledge of the role of numeral imagery in the development, retention, and application of math facts to computation.
Gain knowledge of the role of concept imagery in solving word problems.
Acquisition of specific techniques to stimulate numeral imagery for understanding and writing numbers, with emphasis on the numeral repetition in our base-ten system.
Acquisition of specific techniques to provide mathematical experiences at the concrete and imaged level for the number line.
Acquisition of specific techniques to develop the concepts of the number line, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value, decimals, and fractions through concrete experiences.
Acquisition of specific techniques to apply concrete experiences to imagery for addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts and utilize numeral imagery to stabilize memorization of math facts.
Acquisition of specific techniques to apply the “Concrete to Imagery to Computation” process to the introduction of all basic mathematical concepts and operations.
Acquisition of specific techniques to integrate concept and numeral imagery for solving word problems.
Acquisition of questioning techniques to apply and integrate imagery and language for general mathematical problem-solving, with emphasis on teaching students how to visualize to think logically in math and problem-solving situations.
